Summer Adventure: Day 22

by Becky Darfus

I am trying to wrap my head around the idea that tomorrow starts our last week here. Whoa, did that time go by fast! As Doug mentioned in yesterday’s update, this last week was one that both stretched and enriched us. But we are so thankful for everything that we’ve learned from the experiences.

We have been unsuccessful both last Saturday and today in our attempts to enjoy some of Colorado’s outdoor opportunities. I don’t know if this is normal weather, but it will go from looking sunny and beautiful to rolling, dark, ominous clouds in a rather short amount of time. So both last week and today we ventured out and very soon after arriving at our destination the rain drops began to fall. Quite the bummer.

Earlier in the day, many of the families were hanging out in our main common area, just enjoying the company of our community. At one point, I came into the room to find Elijah on the laptop computer, surrounded by mostly younger kids. They were watching (and singing) many of the Veggie Tales “Silly Songs with Larry.” It was very cute.

As I write this, it’s about 7:30 p.m. and the temperature is currently 49 degrees. One of the families coordinated S’mores around the outside fire pit. The kids love the change to gorge themselves on sweets and the grown-ups get to socialize while they also indulge.

We thank you all for your prayers and support. Sorry that we don’t get to post every day. The kids don’t always have an interest in cooperating when it comes to their day to write.

Blessings!
