May 2020 Update - The Darfus Family
What have you thanked God for this week? When you are surrounded by negative news,
mundane monotony, and stay-at-home orders, it can be easy to get bogged down. But God is still with us. Even when your child grumps for the 387th time about his online school. Even when you think you are going to lose your mind if you don’t talk to someone that lives outside your home. Even when you are certain you will have to wear a mask to Walmart for the rest of your days. God is still with us!!! And I’m so glad.
We hope you all are doing well. How are you finding joy in these days?
During the past month, we have continued reaching out to campers and their families via texting, mail, and email. Last Friday night we held our first Campers Chat via Zoom. We were pleased to have 13 campers show up! It was great to see their smiling faces and to visit with them. Lord wiling, we plan to host other Campers Chats and Bible studies in coming weeks.
We also have been assisting our fellow missionaries Steve and Debbie Cartwright by leading the online kids church service for Siloam Indian Baptist Church. That has been fun and taken us out of our comfort zone a bit, which is good.
We encourage you to stay strong and stay in the word.
“So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold – though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.”
(1 Peter 1:6-7)
Several positive things about being stuck in or near our house
My boys have gotten to be incredible ping pong players! I’m thankful for the fun times we’ve had and thankful we decided to bring the table with us from Ohio.
Family games nights (not every night, but almost)
We’ve enjoyed attending the filming of the service for Siloam Indian Baptist Church.
Re-discovering the joys of cooking
Watching the 14+ rabbits that live outside our home. (Honestly, I’m not exaggerating about the amount. There are probably even more.)
Doug is thankful for more time with me (I may have come up with that one ... )
7. Our morning walks. I’ll admit I love the variety of animals that reside in our area! In addition to the wild rabbits, our neighborhood has cows, horses, pigs, llamas, a variety of chickens, goats, coyotes, two large pet tortoises, an ostrich, dogs, and cats!
After our request for birthday cards in our April email update, we were thrilled to receive beautiful cards from both Betty Cox and the Michael Schaefer family. Thank you so much for your response! We have already sent some to campers!
Would you consider partnering with us?
Although we are fully funded, we do not always receive our monthly donor goal. We supplement our monthly support with a surplus of funds donated up-front as first time gifts. However, to be sustainable in the long-term, we need new monthly partners.
