Lessons learned from a monkey

There is a trap that can be used to catch monkeys. It can be a cage, coconut, or jar in which there is

a banana or treat placed inside. The opening of the trap is large enough for the monkey to reach in, but once they have the item clutched in their hand, it isn’t big enough to pull it out. They have to let go to be freed. The monkey, being greedy, won’t let go, getting caught rather than releasing its treasure. Recently, God brought it to my attention that I (Becky) am struggling with the same problem. As we approach this career change and cross-country move, there are also things I am clutching tightly. Things like our home, our extended family, our church, and our friends; all these precious treasures I yearn to hold tightly. And yet, God continues to gently remind me that to taste the freedom that comes with walking in the Lord’s will, I need to be willing to let go of my treasure.

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?”

(Matthew 16:24-26)

We are so thankful for each member of our ministry support team. We are currently at 58% of our monthly support need and have reached the one-year mark of our first Homeland Ministry Assignment. We know the months ahead will be challenging. It is reassuring to know that we don’t walk this path alone.

Would you please pray for us?

Some areas in which we could use prayer:

  • People would be open to joining our monthly support team

  • Godly wisdom for difficult days ahead

  • Doubts and discouragement would flee

  • God’s name would be glorified each time we share
