Autumn 2024 Update
As November approaches, we’re grateful for the many blessings that remind us of God’s presence in our lives and ministry. While we are grateful year-round, something about Fall and Thanksgiving makes us pause to reflect a bit more.
One of our greatest blessings is you—our partners in this mission to reach Native American youth. Together, God is using us to impact lives in ways we couldn’t accomplish alone.
Fall Camps:
In September and October, we held two camps: one for elementary students and one for teens. God provided ideal weather, a group of wonderful campers, and dedicated volunteers to make each camp memorable and God-honoring.
For the elementary campers, we ran a camp inspired by the movie, “How to Train Your Dragon,” titled “How to Train Your Attitude.” Throughout the weekend, campers learned that, like wild dragons, our attitudes can be tough to control—but with God's Word, we can cultivate attitudes that reflect His love. Each lesson focused on an aspect of attitude:
· Words - Taming our tongues can be harder than taming a dragon (James 3:1-13).
· Gratitude - A thankful heart lifts us up (Luke 17:11-19).
· Compassion - Caring for others gives us a positive perspective (Luke 10:25-37).
· Obedience - Our attitudes depend on who we choose to follow (Joshua 24:14-15).
Besides the lessons, we enjoyed fun snacks, beautiful weather, and kayaking—a first-time experience for some campers!
For teens, the focus was on discovering God’s unique calling. Each lesson encouraged them to consider the purpose God has for their lives:
· Bringing God Your Burdens (Nehemiah 1:1–11) – When we bring our struggles to God, we often discover our calling.
· First Things First (Haggai 1:1–15) – God’s will is our priority.
· Trustworthy (Proverbs 3:1–12) – As we follow God’s calling, we learn to trust Him.
· Trust the Map (James 1:22–27) – God’s Word is our guide.
Teen campers had a blast being outdoors and playing paintball, and our time together strengthened relationships. The more frequently we see the campers, the more comfortable they become with us. In an effort to see them more often, we try to visit campers at events and activities throughout the year. These moments deepen our bonds and build lasting trust.
New Ministry Opportunities:
God has opened two new doors for us to minister to young people this year. The first is with True Pursuit, an after-school program for children in foster group homes. This year about 90% of the foster kids who attend are Native American. We meet twice a week, helping with homework, playing games, doing crafts, sharing meals, and building relationships. We are grateful for this chance to show Christ’s love to these children.
The second opportunity this fall is teaching math at American Indian Bible College (AIC), a Phoenix branch of Nelson University. Starting each class with scripture, commentary, and prayer has allowed Doug to point students to Christ while teaching. It’s a privilege to bring faith into the classroom and support young adults in their walk with God.
Thankful for You:
We are so grateful for each place God allows us to share His love and light. Your prayers and gifts make this ministry possible, and we pray for you as well. Thank you for being part of our team.
